Outdoor Security Cameras - 360 Degrees of Coverage
by: Owen Walcher
For many years now, outdoor security cameras have been a common site at business and commercial sites and public and government facilities and have helped to reduce crime and help investigators solve crimes. As prices for this equipment has come down, these cameras are more often being seen in residential settings to increase security and to allow a homeowner to keep tabs on his surroundings.
In addition to being a first line of defense against unwanted intruders, security cameras that are mounted outside are also a good way to keep an eye on the kids when they are outside playing to help ensure their safety and security and make sure they are also staying in the right areas and not mistakenly stray out into the street, and can even be helpful is resolving the occasional disagreements between siblings or neighbors.
Motion detectors are a nice feature which is available for many outdoor security cameras that are available now. With the motion detector turned on the camera will only start recording when there is some activity happening. You can also leave the cameras on to run continuously if that is preferred or recommended based on your circumstances.
The cameras with the motion detectors are becoming the most popular for most people, because this eliminates having to sift through hours and hours of tape just to find a specific moment that needs to be reviewed when an incident does occur.
The cameras for outdoor security are specifically designed to be installed in either hidden areas for covert observation, or set up in very visible parts of your property, which often is a sufficient deterrent to theft and vandalism just by being visible.
Many businesses use these outdoor cameras to prevent further problems when they experience repeat break-ins, or when the graffiti artists go out of control and frequently deface their business property. Most of the cameras designed for outdoor use have a hood that extends over the end of the camera and provides protection to the lens from rain and also keeps the sun off the lens for proper exposure.
The most common configuration of outdoor security cameras includes four cameras so that with a basic system you will be able to cover your home from all four corners. You could also set up the cameras to to target specific areas such as the driveway entry or the front door or whatever other area of your home you feel might be vulnerable, or where the kids spend most of their time.
